Cricket has become very much popular in recent years mainly because of introduction of T20 version which is a shorter format as compared to test cricket and 50 overs game. The introduction of cricket leagues also played major role in its popularity. Cricketers from different backgrounds play for same team with team spirit as it is a team game. It is not only batsman’s game because bowlers and wicket keeper do play their role but the major destruction is done by batsmen. Here is the list of top 10 batsmen of 2012.
10. Shane Watson
He is a top quality cricketer who can bat as well as bowl. Not too much aggressive with ball in hands but shows aggression when holds bat in his hands. He has in an out of Australian cricket team but in recent years he has shown consistency and scored most of the runs. He is enjoying his prime form nowadays.
9. Umar Akmal
Umar Akmal is a shinning star of Pakistan who is still in his youth. Pakistan has always been known for producing aggressive bowlers but this time a genuine batsman is found by Pakistan who plays his natural game. He has the ability to move the game to his side by batting sensibly as well as scoring runs at a rapid pace.
8. MS Dhoni
India’s best wicket keeper batsman, MS Dhoni, plays as a late order batsman with cool head. He is, in my view, the coolest captain of cricket. His batting style is very much natural. His average in 50 overs game has barely dropped below 50 which is an honor for any batsman.
7. Kumar Sangakkara
Another wicket keeper batsman with average more than 50 but in test matches is Kumar Sangakkara. He also led his team in previous World Cup where they managed to play final against India. After losing final of World Cup, he retired from captaincy and still plays as batsman in Srilankan team.
6. AB De Villiers
It seems to the list of wicket keeper more than batsmen as another wicket keeper comes in. AB De Villiers also falls in the category of aggressive batsmen. Interestingly, his batting average in limited over cricket and test matches touches the figure of 50.
5. Kevin Pietersen
Only a century to his name in T20 format which he scored in IPL 5 but Pietersen secures 5th position in top 10 batsmen of the world. Although he is South African yet he plays international cricket for English. In IPL, he represents Daredevils and his performance in IPL will lead his team to semi-finals.
4. Chris Gayle
Another star performer of IPL is Chris Gayle who is known for making centuries in the shortest format of cricket. He has also completed the century of T20 career with an average of more than 40 and strike rate above 150.
3. Virender Sehwag
The highest run scorer in a single innings of ODI, Virender Sehwag, is also the second highest run scorer in recent IPL. Although his average in ODI cricket has been an issue but his striking power has secured him a permanentposition in batting line of India in all formats of cricket.
2. Virat Kohli
Like Pakistan’s Umar Akmal, Virat Kohli is also young batsman who has matured himself in no time. In just 85 ODIinnings, he has scored 11 centuries. It seems that he is the only one to break the record of Tendulkar in future.
1. Hashim Amla
Hashim Amla, a man with beard, has every stroke and can truly be termed as the best batsman of cricket. In his early days of cricket, he was labeled as a test batsman but when he made his entry to limited over cricket he astonished the whole world. His average and strike in limited over cricket is more than most of the prevailing batsmen. For 2012, Hashim Amla is ranked as the top batsman of the world.
